Hotel Amenities by Star Rating: From Economy to 5-Star

The amenities a hotel provides should scale with its star rating: economy rooms need a clean, functional core; mid-range rooms add branded bath care and more kits; 5-star and luxury rooms expect premium formulas, a signature scent and a full kit set. The product groups are the same across tiers — what changes is the size, the formula quality, the packaging and how complete the set is.

We supply properties from budget chains to luxury resorts, so here’s a tier-by-tier breakdown of what belongs in each. For the full product list behind it, see our complete hotel amenities list.

Economy

Keep it clean and functional. Guests at this tier value value, not luxury, so the goal is a complete-feeling set at the lowest sensible cost:

  • Bath: 15–20ml bottles, or a 2-in-1 shampoo/shower gel to cut SKUs
  • Kits: a dental kit and comb cover the essentials
  • Slippers: EVA, fully disposable
  • Accessories: shower cap and wipes

The mistake to avoid is over-spending here — a 40ml bottle in a daily-turnover budget room is product going down the drain.

3-star

Add branding and a little more completeness. The set starts to feel considered:

  • Bath: 20–30ml branded bottles in a matched formula
  • Kits: dental and shaving kits
  • Slippers: EVA or waffle
  • Branding (label or silk-screen) now matters — see bath & body

4-star

This is where a signature touch begins. Guests expect a generous, branded set:

  • Bath: 30–40ml branded bath line
  • Kits: a full vanity kit alongside dental and shaving — see amenity kits
  • Slippers: waffle
  • Fragrance: a reed diffuser starts to make sense
  • Accessories: a fuller set — laundry bag, pen, coasters

5-star & luxury

Everything is premium, matched and complete. The amenities are part of the luxury experience (for the top end in detail, see our full guide to luxury hotel amenities):

  • Bath: premium 40ml formula with a signature scent
  • Kits: full vanity and sewing kits
  • Slippers: linen or velvet — see slippers
  • Fragrance: a signature scent line across room and bath — see room fragrance
  • Accessories: the full set in a premium finish (silk-screen, emboss)

Buying tip: At 5-star, the finish and scent matter as much as the products. A signature fragrance carried across the line, and silk-screen or emboss instead of a sticker, are what separate a genuinely luxury set from a mid-range one with bigger bottles.

Moving a property up a tier

If you’re repositioning a property — a 3-star refurbishing to 4-star, say — amenities are one of the cheapest, fastest signals of the upgrade. Guests register the change the moment they pick up the bottle. The highest-impact moves, in order:

  1. Upgrade the formula and add a signature scent. This does more than any size change. A better-smelling, better-feeling bath line reads as “premium” instantly.
  2. Lift the finish. Move from a stick-on label to silk-screen on bottles and emboss on soap.
  3. Complete the set. Add the kits, fragrance and accessories the higher tier expects.
  4. Improve the slippers. Move from EVA to waffle or linen.

You don’t have to do everything at once — but lead with the formula and scent, because that’s what guests notice first.

One formula, sized by tier

If you run properties across several tiers, the smart move is one formula and scent across all of them, varied only by size, format and packaging. You get brand consistency, simpler ordering and better pricing — without managing five separate products. The premium finish and signature scent are layered on at the top tiers. For how this works across different property types, see amenities by property type.

Frequently asked questions

What amenities does a 5-star hotel provide?

A premium 40ml bath line with a signature scent, full vanity and sewing kits, linen or velvet slippers, a signature room fragrance, and a complete accessory set in a premium finish — all under one branded identity.

What’s the difference between 3-star and 5-star amenities?

The product groups are similar, but 5-star uses premium formulas, a signature scent, larger sizes, fuller kits, better slipper fabrics and a higher-end finish. 3-star focuses on a clean, branded core set.

What should economy hotel amenities include?

A functional core: 15–20ml bath care or a 2-in-1, a dental kit and comb, EVA slippers, and basics like a shower cap and wipes — kept at the lowest sensible cost.

Can we use the same products across different star ratings?

Yes — keep one formula and scent and vary the size, format and packaging by tier. It gives consistency and better pricing while still letting the top tiers feel premium.
